06. Setting up the workpiece


Tuning an instrument is an art that takes years to learn. The tuning process consists of a huge number of hammer strikes on the note field, thereby changing the tension of the membrane in order to achieve the desired frequency of the sound.


It will take a huge amount of trial and error to find the best way to set it up for each craftsman according to his way of processing. The setup process is carried out in several stages. In between stages, the shell undergoes additional heat treatment. Setting up is one of the most important stages of production. This stage cannot be mechanized and depends entirely on the master.
